Recently published: Update of the PG Binder Map in California Using the Enhanced Integrated Climate Model (EICM) and LTPPBind Online
UCPRC researchers recently published a paper announcing an updated California asphalt binder map that uses newer climate data to improve how road materials are selected for today’s conditions. The study re-examined a map created in 2005 using outdated weather records and found that some regions, including the Inland Valley, were no longer accurately represented, leading to recommendations for updated temperature standards and location adjustments. These changes will help ensure pavements are better suited to current and future climate conditions, improving durability and performance as temperatures continue to rise.
