Angel Mateos is a principal investigator at the UCPRC at UC Berkeley and an associate adjunct professor at the UC Davis Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has served as principal investigator for numerous research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry for Public Works, the European Union, the World Bank, the Federal Highway Administration, Caltrans, and CalRecycle, among others. He is a former associate professor of geotechnical engineering at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. His main expertise is in full-scale evaluation and mechanistic-empirical design of asphalt and concrete pavements, as well as the fundamental characterization and modeling of pavement materials. He holds a Master of Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
